Medicare Explained (in under 4 minutes!) | The 4 Parts of Medicare

https://www.abtinsuranceagency.com/medicare | (888) 465-9728

Medicare Explained – There are 4 main Parts to Medicare: Part A, Part B, Part C and Part D. Part A is your hospital insurance. This Part of Medicare is usually free, and it helps to cover things like inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care and some home health care.

Part A does have some out of pocket costs associated with it – for example, in 2018 there is a $1,340 hospital deductible per 60 day benefit period, so it renews every 60 days. And there is also coinsurance associated with extended hospital days, and skilled nursing facility care.

Medicare Part B is your Medical insurance. This helps to cover outpatient services, things like office visits, diagnostic testing, durable medical equipment and even most non self administered medications. Part B isn’t free – most people pay a standard premium of $134/month for Medicare Part B. Part B services are subject to an annual deductible ($183 in 2018) and then, Medicare Part B pays 80% of Part B covered services after the deductible is met – you pay 20%.

Medicare Parts A and B together are called original Medicare.

Medicare Part C is an optional way to receive your Medicare benefits – so it not mandatory, and in fact it is not ‘original medicare’. Medicare Part C is also called Medicare Advantage, and these are managed care plans that cover Part A and B benefits, and usually include prescription drug benefits as well. If you decide to go with a Medicare Advantage Plan, you typically receive services from network providers, and pay out of pocket in the form of co-pays and coinsurance for certain services.

Medicare Part D is your prescription drug coverage. You can get Part D coverage either built into your Part C Medicare Advantage Plan, or if you have original Medicare you can purchase a stand alone Part D plan. Stand alone Part D plans are offered by different insurance companies and the plan that is best for you will be based on the medications you are taking currently.

These are the four parts of Medicare explained in a nutshell!

Medicare Supplements | Top Medigap Buying Mistakes

https://www.abtinsuranceagency.com | (888) 465-9728

Medicare Supplement Plans can offer you excellent health coverage, but we see many people make costly mistakes when it comes to choosing their Medigap Plan. Today I’m talking about some of the top mistakes people make when shopping for Medicare Supplement insurance, and how to avoid them.

The first mistake people make when buying a Medicare Supplement Plan is simply not doing their research. I always recommend that people explore all options, and look at your Medicare & You Guidebook – right there on page 79 you can find information about Medigap policies, including how to compare Medigap Plans. Before you talk to an agent or broker, or even call an insurance company direct it’s important to have that base knowledge about Medicare and Medicare Supplement insurance and what it covers.

Another mistake people make is buying their plan directly from the insurance company. It can be very tempting to just call up the insurance carrier direct to buy your plan, but you are really doing yourself a disservice when you take that route. The reason being, as soon as you enroll direct with the carrier, you have just given up all of your choices and freedom. The insurance company has an internal sales department and they are more than happy to sell you a policy over the phone. Agent and broker commissions are automatically built into Medigap premiums, so there is never any additional cost to you to use a broker, and when you use an independent broker you are maintaining your freedom to shop other plans in the market. When you do receive rate increases, an independent broker will be able to let you know if there are new competitive prices for your plan in your area.

Another mistake I’ll talk about it just enrolling with the cheapest possible company for your Medigap plan. Now, Medigap Plans are standardized, and the same exact plan can vary in cost depending on the company you go with. So while it is important to look at Plan Pricing when making your decision, you also want to look at the insurance company’s financials, and what their rate increase history has been. Sometimes, the best company to go with will be the lowest priced in the market, but often for just a few dollars more you can find a stronger A rated company with better financials that will end up saving you money in the long term.

I also want to warn against pushy sales tactics. Especially for folks T65, you’re likely to receive lots of calls in the months before you turn 65. Some folks have told me they actually have thought about changing their phone number. These calls are often from big calls centers and with pushy sales people who are trying to get you to sign up right then and there, and then after that you never hear from them again.

Remember that no one from ‘Medicare’ will actually be calling you and you don’t need to enroll before you feel ready.

If you’re watching this video, you are already a step ahead of the game in doing your research. If you ever have any questions, or would like a free no obligation quote, please call me at 888-465-9728, or you can send me an email – and I promise your information is always kept private and secure.

In fact, they were one of the very first carriers to offer Medigap Plans after Medicare was signed into law in 1965. Financially, the company is very strong, holding an A+ rating with AM best. Medicare Supplements 2018 | How to Save Money on Your Plan

https://www.abtinsuranceagency.com (888) 465-9728 | Medicare Supplement Insurance Plans offer excellent medical coverage. But, chances are if you’ve had your plan for a few years your rates have gone and you may not be aware that lower rates are available.

Medicare Supplement Plans are standardized plans that supplement your original Medicare benefits. These plans are offered by many different insurance companies, but no matter what insurance company go have your Plan with, the benefits are always exactly the same, by letter. So a Plan F with one company is exactly the same as a Plan F with any other carrier – but, just like it shows in your Medicare and You Guidebook, different insurance companies can charge different prices for that same exact Plan.

The secret that most seniors don’t know, is that you can actually change your Medicare Supplement Plan at ANY time during the year. So, if you’ve gotten a rate increase on your Medigap Plan, you can shop around for other prices at any time.

There is no set enrollment period. Every fall, there is the annual election period (Oct. 15- Dec. 7th) but that period has nothing to do with your Medicare Supplement Plan. The annual election period is for your Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage Plan changes.

If you find another company that offers your same Medigap plan for less, you can change at any time – pending medical underwriting. You see, when you are outside of your initial Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period, every insurance company has a set list of health questions that they will ask you to determine if you are eligible for coverage. The questions can vary from one insurance company to another, but generally you’ll be asked if you have any upcoming surgeries or tests, if you’ve recently had a heart attack, stroke, or cancer diagnosis – things like that. As long as you can answer “no” to their questions, you should be able to qualify to save money on your Medicare Supplement Plan.

Nothing makes me happier than to help seniors save money while they keep their same great Medicare Supplement Plan. Some folks believe it’s almost too good to be true, until they see the savings.

As an independent broker, I work with over 30 different insurance companies, so I’m always on top of the best rates for Medicare Supplement Plans, and I serve clients nationwide. If you’d ever like a free no obligation quote please give me a call. Thanks for watching!
